East Bengal are adding some final touches to their preparations for the much-awaited grand finale of the Indian Super Cup. A clash against Bengaluru FC beckons the Red and Gold as they chase silverware after six long years.
Khalid Jamil, in his pre-match press conference, spoke about a host of issues ranging from their opponents to the threat of Miku. More importantly, he gave a fitness update on star striker Dudu Omegbemi. The forward has been a doubt for the final ever since he suffered a knock in the 1-0 semifinal win over FC Goa.
A number of reports have been doing the rounds for the past couple of days regarding the availability of the East Bengal striker. Many, including club director Subhash Bhowmick, had predicted that Dudu would not be able to play a part in the Super Cup final. But manager Khalid Jamil has today given a positive update on the former Chennaiyin FC man.
Jamil revealed, "Maybe Dudu will be fine and he'll play tomorrow. We are trying our best to get him back to full fitness." Call it mind games or just the plain truth, Jamil has given Bengaluru FC plenty to think about and at the same time, delivered the Red and Gold faithful good news ahead of tomorrow's big game.
Meanwhile, Jamil praised Bengaluru FC and called them a "good side". He admitted that he is wary of the threats that Bengaluru possess but remained positive about his team's chances. Jamil declared that his men are ready for the clash against the Blues.
Eduardo Ferreira, the central defender also joined his manager in the media interaction. The defender called for concentration from his backline and also termed Bengaluru FC as one of the best teams in the country. He praised BFC's clinical finisher Miku but maintained that his side could handle the threat of Sunil Chhetri and co.
The final kicks off tomorrow at 4 PM IST and will be played at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneshwar to decide the first ever winner of the Indian Super Cup.
