ndian Women's League started with a bang today as two back to back kickoffs kick-started the 2018 campaign. The first game of the season saw reigning champions Eastern Sporting Union take on Indira Gandhi Academy for Sports & Education (IGASE). The 11 am kickoff saw Gokulam Kerala FC make their IWL debut against Rising Student's Club.
The first match proved to be a nail-biter as Eastern Sporting Union, looking to defend their league title, won 3-2 against IGASE. Kashmina gave the Bembem Devi-coached side the lead in the first half only for IGASE's Paromita to equalize in the 43rd minute. A second-half brace from Union's Prameshwori turned out to be the difference between the two sides at the end. Sandhiya scored the consolation goal for IGASE.

In the second match of the day, Gokulam Kerala FC could not start their IWL campaign with a win as the side from Kozhikode succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against last year's finalists - Rising Student's Club. It was all to play for until the 73rd minute between the two sides but two goals in three minutes turned the tide in RSC's favour. Ngoubi Devi and Anju Tamang were the two scorers against Gokulam Kerala FC.
RSC next face off on March 28 against Eastern Sporting Union in what will be a rematch of last season's grand final. Meanwhile, Gokulam Kerala will lock horns against Sethu FC the next day. Meanwhile, IWL will tomorrow see only one clash in the day with Sethu FC taking on KRYPHSA at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong.
