Joachim Low has revealed that Germany and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has handed the World Cup winners a late fitness boost and could be available for the match with Georgia. "Bastian Schweinsteiger will take part in the final training session and then we will decide on his availability," the German head coach told a media conference. Though, he has suggested that he won’t tinker with his starting line-up.
According to previous reports, Schweinsteiger was deemed unfit for the match against Georgia. But this news will bring some respite for the Red Devils, who haven’t had a good month so far.
What seemed a great start for Manchester United, going into October, is suddenly turning out into a tough one. It’s like they are taking a step forward and then a couple of steps back. The Red Devils thrashed Liverpool at Old Trafford, things were starting to click, but in their next match, they lost Luke Shaw through a horrific injury at Eindhoven.
The English youngster cemented his position in the United line up, but unfortunately will be out for almost rest of the season. Man United won rest of their fixtures in September. October was anyhow going to be a tough month, with Arsenal, Everton and CSKA Moscow, all away fixtures and then the big one against Manchster City at Old Trafford, all in a month.
As if the humiliating loss against Arsenal was not enough, Manchester United’s official website reports that, Schweinsteiger can be a doubt for the next match against Everton. The official Twitter account for the German Football Association confirmed the disappointing news, but there is still hope.
Germany’s coach Joachim Low says the seriousness of the injury will soon become clear. “For Schweinsteiger I will need to see,” he told reporters. “The medical staff said two or three days’ rest.” Germany lost their qualifier match against Ireland and still need a point to qualify for Euro 16.
England’s manager gave an update on both Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney’s fitness.
"Michael trained fully in quite an intense training session on Wednesday but he had a re-occurrence of a feeling that he sometimes gets in his groin – a slight tightening of the groin – and we didn’t want to take any chances in what was a fairly light session before the match,” said Hodgson on Thursday. “So we decided to rest him for the session on the basis that it will help him be fit for tomorrow night.” Though, he was not risked, possibly on the request Manchester United’s management team.
As for Wayne Rooney’s ankle injury, he said, “It is settling down very well and we certainly don’t want to risk him because he has lots of important Manchester United games ahead. I would be devastated if we pushed him out there and something happened to increase the problem he has with his ankle. So we decided it is better that he doesn’t play in this game.
“During the time he was receiving treatment for the ankle injury he has been very keen to stay with us, and very keen to be part of our post-match meetings we had in regards to the Switzerland game. I am sure he is looking forward to Sir Bobby presenting him with his golden boot.”
Old Trafford faithfuls must be hoping that all three of their important players are back to full fitness, as soon as possible. But for the time being, Louis Van Gaal and his Red Army have to be patient.
