Jose Mourinho will clash with his ex-employers Real Madrid in the final of International Champions Cup after an impressive 2-0 win over AC Milan at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
Belgian youngster Kevin De Bruyne gave Blues a deserved lead in the first half before new signing Andre Schurrle sealed the match with a stunning volley in the injury time of second-half.
Milan dominated the possession in the first half, but Chelsea, with a trio of De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and Oscar, hit Serie A side on the counter, creating more chances than their Italian counter parts.
Milan created their first chance after of the match in 14th minute as the Stephan El Shaarawy dribbled past the Chelsea defence to cross the ball to Kevin Prince-Boateng, but the latter could not direct his volley goal-wards.
Mourinho’s side absorbed the pressure and then conjured up their own attack with a Belgian combination of Hazard-De Bruyne, with the latter scoring in the 29th minute.
Milan looked more threatening in the second half after the arrival of M’Baye Niang, and if it was not for alert Chelsea defending, the Frenchman might have found the equaliser.
Substitute Victor Moses looked lively for Chelsea in the second half but wasted several goal-scoring opportunities when he found himself with time on the ball at the right hand side before redeeming himself in the final moments. Schuerrle, who came as a substitute in the second-half, scored with a fantastic volley from Moses’s cross to finish off the contest.
In the second-half Fernando Torres found number of chances to score but wasted all of them with either a wild shot or misplaced the pass to a team-mate.
As Chelsea face Real Madrid at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Wednesday, Milan will face Los Angeles Galaxy for a third place finish in the tournament.
