International Champions Cup: Real Madrid beats LA Galaxy 3-1 in Phoenix

Real Madrid v Los Angeles Galaxy - International Champions Cup 2013

Karim Benzema scores Real Madrid’s second goal during the International Champions Cup 2013 match against Los Angeles Galaxy

Real Madrid eased past LA Galaxy 3-1 with a brace from substitute Karim Benzema and one from Angel di Maria in an entertaining performance in a pre-season friendly in Phoenix.

Angel di Maria opened the scoring after 15 minutes of play at the University of Phoenix Stadium, as he latched on to a Cristiano Ronaldo lay-off.

Benzema, who was introduced at half-time as Ronaldo made way, scored at 51 minutes with a neat finish. Then LA Galaxy pulled one back 12 minutes later with a stunning goal from 19-year-old Jose Villarreal to make things interesting, but France international Benzema scored his second with 16 minutes left on the clock to hand Real Madrid an easy victory.

Real Madrid and the LA Galaxy are two of eight teams playing in the International Champions Cup, played across the United States. The other teams are Juventus, Internazionale, AC Milan, Chelsea, Everton and Valencia.
