The English back five however weren’t able to hold on as Michael Arroyo restored parity with a superb strike in the 70th minute.
The game however was yet to provide more fireworks as Antonio Valencia and Raheem Sterling(who had just come on in 65th minute) were given their marching orders after a scuffle broke out on the 79 minute mark.
England’s day was further dampened when another of their young guns had to be taken off the field and this time due to an injury. Oxlade-Chamberlain was forced off after sustaining a knee injury, the extent of which is yet to be known.
The Azurri meanwhile were embarrassed by lowly Luxembourg in Verona. The hosts took an early lead courtesy Claudio Marchisio but failed to extend their early advantage as the post denied the 2006 champions twice in the game.
