Iran’s Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz has announced that he will step down as the manager of Iran following the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The main reason for his resignment is the lack of financial resources on football which is caused by various political restrictions.
"Yes my connection will finish here at the World Cup, there was not support from the government - there has stopped being a genuine interest because of the financial situation. The dialogue has been cut off and I have already decided not to stay.” said the former Real Madrid manager.
Iran has faced political actions by “world powers” for the development of nuclear technology. With the lack of money, Queiroz found it difficult to arrange to play international friendies against quality teams, and instead had to be contented by playing against teams like Trinidad and Tobago.
Queiroz, who was the number two to Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford has no plans to retire and instead want to guide another team to World Cup finals. If he becomes successful in doing this he will be the first manager to lead 4 teams at a World Cup.
