Is Radamel Falcao the next Drogba Chelsea are craving for?

It seems that every transfer window for the past few years has seen Chelsea linked to yet another striker in an attempt to solve their wastefulness in front of the net.

Since club icon Didier Drogba left the club, the Blues’ striking options of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o have enjoyed little success in replacing the big Ivorian. And now they’re trying to sign Monaco star Radamel Falcao.

Four league goals so far this campaign between the aforementioned quartet paints a sorry picture of Chelsea’s woes in front of goal, and now Blues boss Jose Mourinho looks to be taking action once again.

According to the Express, Stamford Bridge chiefs have been tasked of luring one of the world’s finest No.9s from the picturesque setting of tax-haven principality Monaco.

The Colombian striker destroyed La Liga defences with 28 goals from 34 appearances last season before clinching a big-money move to Monaco in the summer.

Falcao Stats from Squawka.com

So far this term, Falcao has notched nine from 13 in what has been a seamless start to life in Ligue 1 as Monaco attempt to challenge PSG for domestic success.

This firepower is backed up by the forward’s respectable shot accuracy of 61 per cent, and a superb conversion rate of 29 per cent.

Apart from goals, Falcao can get involved in the passing build-up with an excellent 85 per cent pass accuracy rate, but he shouldn’t be relied on to beat his man with just a 42 per cent take on success.

He’s also not particularly good in the air, having won just 35 per cent of his aerial duels, which is in line with his image as a pure poacher of goals.

Chelsea are arguably just one great goalscorer away from walking away with the title this season, and Falcao would be a great signing to fill the void left by Drogba.
