Is the 'beautiful' game of football going in the right direction?

With all the money and the agents of players, “money people” as they are known in modern day football, getting involved in the game, the question arises: Is the game of football going in the right direction?

As some incidents in the recent past suggest, this has increased the greed of players and is also destroying the loyalties of the player to his club, which the likes of Ryan Giggs for Manchester United and Paolo Maldini for AC Milan personified.

The problem is increasing day by day and transfer incidents or rumors have increased in the recent years. The player plays an important and vital role in these scenarios. As a result, it also decreases the role of the manager at the club. We saw it in the famous “Rooney saga” after the 2009/10 season, when he handed in a transfer request to transfer him to a club (Manchester City) who was giving him the salary he wanted. There are so many such incidents in modern day football, whether the player is from a big club like Manchester United or a moderate club like Everton. A game, which is loved by millions of people, is being ruined by agents of these players, who are only interested in their own well-being.

Along with the agents, there are other people who share responsibility for the present situation. The owners of the richer clubs in football like Chelsea, Manchester City, Anzhi Makhachkala and Malaga are also responsible for disturbing the market. They are ready to give players “offers they can’t refuse”. As a result, it is increasing the greed of players.

Another aspect in this particular scenario is the player power in the clubs. If we take the recent sacking of the chelsea’s manager AVB, it was because of the player power in the club as a few senior players did not want to play under him. These rich owners are changing the tradition of the game, and for them, sacking of the manager is not a big issue.

With all this happening in today’s football world, many people are left wondering, “Is this the same game of football which they have always loved or is this going into a wrong direction?”
