Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas was full of praise for his teammate Isco after their 2-0 win over Elche on Sunday which took them four points clear of Barcelona in the La Liga table. The 33-year-old Spaniard is convinced that Isco will become the most important player in Spanish football in the coming years.
Isco has been in superb form for Real this season, and in their latest game against Elche, he once again proved his form by assisting Cristiano Ronaldo with a beautiful cross from the left. The €30 million signing from Malaga now has a total of eight assists in La Liga, and Casillas has no doubt that he will only get better as he matures.
Speaking to Canal Plus, the veteran said, "Isco will be the most important player in Spanish football in the coming years. "We are delighted with him but he must take care, focus on his game and go step by step. Too much flattery can weaken players."
The game against Elche also marked Casillas’s 500th appearance for Real Madrid, moving him closer to Raul’s record of 550.
The Spanish goalkeeper though refused to compare himself with Raul, saying, "I am thankful to have reached such a milestone. At another club, it would have been more difficult to get there. I hope I can get more, but I don't think about Raul's record. He is a legend at Real Madrid and his numbers are outrageous."
