Isco had received offers from Malaga and Spurs this summer but chose to stay at Real

Isco is set to miss Real Madrid's Champions League opener against Sporting Lisbon. Though the 24-year-old has recovered from an injury which made him miss Real's 5-2 win over Osasuna on Saturday, he hasn't trained enough with the squad to make him include in the 19 man squad called by manager Zinedine Zidane for the home clash against Sporting Lisbon.

Keylor Navas and Fabio Coentrao will still be missed by the European champions as they have not yet fully recovered from their respective injuries. Marco Asensio is another youngster who has failed to make the squad for Madrid's Champions League opener. Nacho, who started in their 5-2 win over Osasuna also misses out along with Soriano.

The 24-year old had a tough summer as his future was hanging in balance after falling out of favour at Bernabeu. Isco had a brilliant first season for Real where he scored 11 goals and 7 assists in 53 appearances for the Los Blancos.

His performances took a downward turn in the next season, as from being projected as the club's future, he had to be satisfied with a place on the bench. His average performances denied him a place in the Spain's squad for the Euros which was said to be a huge setback for the 24-year-old.

Isco will fight for his place at Madrid

Isco surprisingly stayed at Madrid this season despite his limited opportunities so far under Zidane

Many clubs were interested in the former Malaga man with Spurs and Malaga ready to take him on loan for the 2016-17 season. But Madrid had made it clear that they won't be selling any player keeping in mind the transfer ban imposed on them for the next two transfer windows.

Speaking on the transfer ban, Zidane was disappointed as he quipped, "I do not understand it and it annoys me. It is absurd. The club want this changed quickly and I hope it will be. My kids were born here and have spent their whole lives here, so it is absurd they cannot play football."

Tomorrow's game will be more special as Ronaldo faces his former side as Lisbon comes calling. The trio of BBC is expected to start in their defense of the title they won in Milan last season. Real Madrid and Sporting Lisbon are joined by Borussia Dortmund and Legia Warsaw in Group F.
