Delhi Dynamos might have edged past FC Goa in the first leg of the semi-finals of the second season of the Indian Super League but head coach of the team and Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos has no intention of coming back to India next season.
Ahead of their match against FC Goa, which they eventually won 1-0, Carlos revealed his future plans as he said, “I have already spoken to president of the club. Next season I won’t be coming. Thanks a lot to the club and all the supporters in Delhi for all the love and support.”
“In every professional life, you go with the opportunity that comes. You perform well and develop a great job in the club and someone else comes with an offer and you go. This has been good for me. Thanks to Prashant (Agarwal) and all the management. They’ve helped me pick a team that has got to the semi-finals. They performed very well and did what I asked. I got very nice offers from other clubs," he said further.
Carlos however did not reveal which club he is joining next and talked about his determination to win the league this season.
“ISL hasn’t ended yet. I already said that I won’t be here next season. Now, I want to speak about the title and trophy. When I sign with another club, you will know. I still have three matches here. I am counting on the final obviously. To be second or third is like coming last. The press will know soon enough,”said the former Brazilian international.
Carlos’ fellow Brazilian Zico, is echoing similar thoughts. The FC Goa manager, who oversaw his side’s 1-0 defeat to Delhi in the semifinal first leg, is reportedly also contemplating a move out of India. According to Indian Express Zico said,
“There are some offers from European and Asian clubs that I am analysing. National teams can happen but it’s tough because they are in preparation phase for the World Cup. Of course, if I get long-term contract I will not be available (for FC Goa). I gave my word to owners to fulfill my two years contract and I did it. Now, let’s see. I am not saying I will not come back also.”
The Indian Super League will be sure to miss these Brazilian stalwarts next season. However, the duo will be sure to acknowledge the exposure that the second edition of the Indian Super League has provided their managerial talents.
