Indian Super League champions Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce that they have signed Dutch midfielder Hans Mulder for the 2016 edition of the ISL.
Mulder played for Delhi Dynamos in the first two ISL campaigns and now joins Chennaiyin after a short spell at Spanish third tier outfit Cacereno earlier this year.
Born in Amsterdam, Mulder is half Spanish and had a stint at the youth setup of Real Zaragoza before joining Netherlands outfit RKC Waalwijk. He went on to play for RKC Waalwijk’s senior side in both the first and second tier of Holland.
Mulder then had spells at Willem II and NEC in the Dutch Eredivisie before moving to Delhi Dynamos in the inaugural ISL through the international draft in 2014.
After ISL 2014, the 29-year-old had a short stint at Danish top tier outfit Nordsjaelland and returned to the Delhi franchise for ISL 2015.
With 28 appearances, Mulder is ranked in the top five of most games in ISL history. One of his three ISL goals came in Delhi’s 2-2 draw with Chennaiyin at the Marina Arena in season one.
Chennaiyin manager Marco Materazzi also played that game and had been impressed by the Dutch central midfielder from the first campaign.
“Mulder had two very consistent seasons in the ISL. We were keen to add his quality and experience in our midfield this year. So we are very happy to have signed him and believe in him to have another strong campaign,” said Materazzi.
“I enjoyed my two years in India while playing for Delhi. When Marco Materazzi showed interest in me, I instantly made up my mind of joining Chennaiyin. I am looking forward to playing for such a consistent team and hope to win my first ISL title with them,” Mulder stated.
