#5 Joffre and Rafael Coelho’s recent form augurs well for FC Goa

Rafael Coelho
Rafael Coelho’s strike was the deciding factor in the game

The pairing which has played almost all the games for the Gaurs this season is finally coming into its own. Jofre Mateu, the former ATK creative midfielder, was one of the key players last season in FC Goa’s run to the finals and finally, had a match which showcased his abilities. Jofre made a lot of mazy runs throughout the time he was on the pitch and looked like a constant threat for the home team.

With one such run, Jofre created the free-kick which was brilliantly converted by Rafael Coelho. The Brazilian has been one of the key man for Zico this season and the 28-year-old showcased his abilities perfectly. The duo linked up brilliantly in the first half and created a clear goal-scoring opportunity for the Gaurs in the 60th minute.

With Julio Cesar missing due to a hamstring injury, the striker led the line brilliantly, ran at defenders and should’ve got the second goal in the 85th minute, with only Rahul Bheke to beat. The striker might have got just one goal, but his performance bodes well for the team which needed to win badly, having garnered just four points in seven matches before this game.
