What's the story?
Bengaluru FC may have encountered disappointment towards the end of what was a seemingly successful first campaign in the Indian Super League (ISL), but it is visibly clear that the club is already aiming at stabilising their impressive squad for next year's competition.
The club announced via Twitter today that they are extending the contract of versatile player Boithang Haokip, keeping him at the club till 2020. Boithang has been applauded in the past for his terrific work rate and commitment to the cause along with being equally adept with both feet.
In case you didn't know...
Boithang Haokip played the majority of his career at Shillong Lajong where he learned his craft before enjoying stints with NorthEast United FC and Mumbai City FC. He managed 10 appearances in the ISL this season with Bengaluru FC and even scored a goal during that time.
The heart of the matter
Boithang Haokip will be especially delighted with the news of having a club till 2020 amid speculation over his future and that of many others following Bengaluru's surprising exit from the ISL in the final.
There is little reason to believe that the 27-year-old will not be successful at Bengaluru in the coming few seasons considering how pivotal he was with his versatility and confidence on the ball, providing much-needed stability to the team while attacking and defending. His contract extension should most certainly benefit both the player and the club.
What's next?
Bengaluru FC are shifting their focus to prepare for next season and will hope to put the disappointment of a losing final behind them with immediate effect.
