What's the story?
Spanish football Victor Pulga was spotted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Saturday during Blaster's game against Delhi Dynamos. Pulga played for Kerala Blasters across two seasons in which he featured in 15 games and scored one goal. However, he had become a fan favourite during this short duration and his presence at the stadium surprised many.
In case you didn't know...
VPulga has a lot of experience as he has played for different Spanish clubs like Castellon, Villareal B and Toledo. However, he has never got the chance to play in La Liga. He also had stints in Greece, Indonesia and until recently he was plying his trade with the Bolivian club Nacional Potosi. He played for Kerala Blasters in the first and second season in which he played six and nine games respectively. He also played in the final of the inaugural ISL season in which Kerala lost to Atletico de Kolkata 1-0.
The heart of the matter
Fans were delighted to see Pulga in the stands as Kerala beat Delhi Dynamos 2-1. The game stretched over nine minutes into the injury time as the talisman Iain Hume scored the winning goal for Kerala. Pulga has been released by the Bolivian club and is currently a free agent.
What's next?
The free agent might be eyeing a midseason deal with Kerala Blasters who are 5th in the table and have played most number of games this season. They will have to play out of their skins to harbour any hopes of qualifying for the knockout round.
Author's take
The fans must be overjoyed to know that the Spaniard was in Kochi for Kerala's game. However, on the sporting front, a deal with the player can't be ruled out as foreigners Dimitar Berbatov and Keziron Kizito is suffering from injuries which have already forced the Kerala think-tank to consider other options for the rest of the season.
