In case you didn't know
ATK, who were earlier known as Atletico de Kolkata, are two-time winners and defending champions of the Indian Super League trophy. On both occasions, they overcame the Kerala Blasters in the final.
The side, which is co-owned by cricketing great Sourav Ganguly, were in Dubai for their preseason training and have a strong and versatile set of players, making them one of the favourites for the title.
The heart of the matter
Both Sheringham and Keane spoke at length and the event, stating that they are raring to go for the season. The manager stated that he is delighted to see everyone get excited due to football and emphasized that the fans will have a crucial role to play in the team's form.
He also spoke about integrating the Indian and foreign players into one unit, something he said that he is looking forward to.
Keane, whose goal-scoring record in football is quite extraordinary, said that he has been quite impressed with the Indian players and singled Eugenson Lyngdoh for praise, referring to him as a 'European kind of player'.
What's next?
The new ISL season kicks off on November 17 and ATK will be in action on the opening day. They will go up against the formidable Kerala Blasters in Kochi in what promises to be a real thriller.
Author's take
The side from Kolkata, given the talent at their disposal, look like a strong side on paper and they will look to go all the way once again this time around.
