The Delhi Dynamos kicked off their Indian Super League Season 4 campaign on a winning note as they recorded an impressive victory against FC Pune City at the Balewadi Stadium. They recorded a 3-2 win at the end of the 90 minutes, having scored three goals in quick succession early in the second half.
The main architect behind the team's win was youngster Lallianzuala Chhangte, who recorded one goal and one assist on the night and was crowned the Hero of the Match for his contribution in the Dynamos' victory. He ran riot down the left wing and created a number of chances, thus also earning praise from his manager after the match.
He assisted his side's first goal of ISL 2017, putting in a delicious cross from the left wing that allowed to Paulinho Dias to head home from point-blank range. He scored his team's second of the evening, with a fine solo effort that included an incredibly fast sprint and a cheeky finish over the advancing keeper.
A miskicked clearance by the Pune centre-back saw the ball arrive for Chhangte, with acres of space behind the defence for the winger to rush in to. The 20-year-old charged at goal and according to graphics shown in the post-match program, he recorded a top speed of 35.80 km/h.
A study from earlier this year by Mexican club Pachuca, which ranked the world's fastest football players clocked Cristiano Ronaldo at 33.6 km/h and Lionel Messi at 32.5 km/h, which puts the Indian way ahead of world football's most iconic duo.
The fastest player in the world according to the study is Gareth Bale at 36.9 km/h.
