NorthEast United FC have sacked head coach Joao De Deus after the Portuguese led the Highlanders through a poor run of form, which has seen them drop down to the drop down to second from bottom on the ISL table.
While De Deus had emphasized on an attacking style of play for NEUFC, they have floundered this season, managing to win only one of their seven matches so far. Their only win came against bottom club Delhi Dynamos.
The club management had not been impressed by these run of results for some time and had taken the call to sack the Portuguese manager and the staff. However, the whole process took some time, as the club is said to be facing some financial constraints, and the process of sacking De Deus and his coaching staff would cost the Highlanders a fair amount.
The Highlanders are said to be looking at two of their former coaches as possible replacements for De Deus.
Nelo Vingada seems to be the frontrunner for the position at the moment. NEUFC officials had previously confirmed to Sportskeeda that Vingada had contacted the club management and expressed his desire to return to the helm of affairs in Guwahati.
The Highlanders are also said to be looking at Cesar Farias as a possibility, as the Venezuelan had led the club to its highest ever finish (fifth) in ISL season 2.
