ATK's star man Robbie Keane got them their first win of ISL 2017, as turned four defenders to slot the ball into the bottom corner of the Delhi Dynamos goal at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday.
The defending champions have been going through a poor run of form, with their marquee striker missing from action in the first few games of the tournament due to an injury. However, now that he is back, the Kolkata side seems to be back to their winning ways as well.
ATK head coach Teddy Sheringham heaped praise on Keane after the match, labelling his goal as a rather "special" one.
"The goal that Robbie scored was a special goal to win the game,” said Sheringham.
“I am delighted with the team performance. I am also delighted that Robbie Keane scored his first goal and the way he scored it as well,” Sheringham further said. “It was a very tough game – very tough to break down as a side and I think it is a fantastic result for us.”
This result seems to be all the more pleasant as it came two days before Christmas. Acknowledging the festive mood, Sheringham said, “Anytime you have to win a game working as hard everyone’s really happy. But it’s Christmas as well. And the next game has changed from 31st December to 3rd of January as well, so we have a mini break.
"We can enjoy the result but we know we are back to work straight after Christmas and prepare for our next game which is a big game again,” he signed off.
This win pushes ATK one spot higher in the table to the seventh place, as they climb above last season's runners-up Kerala Blasters. While the defending champions have not performed so well this season, they have built up some steam, winning their last two matches against Mumbai City FC and Delhi Dynamos.
