FC Pune City’s marquee foreigner David Trezeguet is determined to win the inaugural season of the Indian Super League.
Besides his duties on the pitch, Trezeguet will be expected to be an ambassador for both the franchise and the league overall. But the 36-year-old doesn’t want to compromise on the serious football matters either.
"Well, we’ve been talking it over with the lads and the staff, and our aim is to go over there and win the championship. That’s our idea. We want to do well, to show what we can do and that we still have great desire to play football and succeed. That’s our goal – playing well and winning the league,” Trezeguet was quoted saying by the official website of Italian club Fiorentina, who have a tie-up with the Pune franchise.
The 14 Indian players of FC Pune City are currently in Florence, using the training facilities of Fiorentina and they will soon be training with Trezeguet and the other foreigners.
FC Pune City are expected to play a friendly with Fiorentina before they return to India for the ISL.
The Pune franchise starts their ISL campaign with an away match against Delhi Dynamos on October 13. That clash will see Trezeguet up against his former Juventus teammate Alessandro Del Piero, who is Delhi’s marquee foreigner.
"It’s great. Alessandro has also decided to go on this adventure with us – albeit with another team. I saw him in Rome for the Match for Peace and he looked great. He’s raring to go. It’ll be a completely new experience for all of us and we hope to do our very best,” he said.
