Chennai, Nov 18 (IANS) FC Pune City take on Chennaiyin FC in a crucial match of the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday. The winner of the match will go top of the standings.
The first leg between the two sides ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw in Pune. Chennai is currently placed second in the league table behind Atletico de Kolkata, whereas FC Pune City lie fourth, behind Kerala Blasters, but with a game in hand.
Both FC Pune City and Chennaiyin FC are coming off draws in their previous games against NorthEast United FC and Atletico de Kolkata respectively and will be looking forward to win this crucial encounter as both sides are vying for the top slot.
FC Pune City drew their last two games and will be desperately looking for a win against a formidable Chennaiyin side, which has in its ranks the dangerous Elano Blumer, who is the highest scorer in the league so far.
Pune City's striker Dudu Omagbemi has been a revelation up front and has been instrumental in the team's successful run in the tournament. Kostas Katsouranis, the only player in the ISL to have played in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has held the mid-field together with the likes on Lenny Rodrigues and Israil Gurung and has played a major role in the team’s good show.
The addition of Jermaine Pennant and Hungarian footballer Krisztian Vadocz, has further added to the team's strength and they will definitely fancy their chances on Wednesday while Chennai will bank on their brilliant strike-force and vocal home support to go on top of the points table.
