Italian World Cup winner Marco Materazzi has confirmed his move to the Chennai franchise of the Indian Super League on his official Twitter account @iomatrix23
The 41-year-old former defender thanked co-owners Abhishek Bachchan and Vita Dani of Asian Paints, who is also the first cousin of Mukesh Ambani.
Materazzi is expected to have the role of a player-manager and becomes the fifth World Cup winner to join the ISL after Joan Capdevila (NorthEast United), Robert Pires (FC Goa), David Trezeguet (FC Pune City) and Alessandro Del Piero.
The Chennai franchise has reportedly signed up Brazilian playmaker Elano and their squad is currently training in Bangalore, where Materazzi is soon expected to join.
