Italian FA yet to decide on Prandelli's future

Rome, Dec 28 (IANS) Italian Football Association (FIGC) president Giancarlo Abete said they are yet to make any decision about the future of national coach Cesare Prandelli, who is expected to leave after next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

Prandelli has on several occasions expressed his wish to coach a club side when his contract expires after Brazil 2014, reports Xinhua.

AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri, Roberto Mancini of Galatasaray and Japan manager Alberto Zaccheroni are those among the possible candidates to succeed Prandelli.

Abete, though, dismissed all these allegations on Friday saying the FIGC has not contacted anyone and hopes Prandelli stays on.

“It is normal in the world of football that we are hearing names,” he said.

“However, this is just public opinion and news stories, it has nothing to do with us as a Federation.”

“We have a commitment to meet with Prandelli to verify the plans for the future and we hope he stays,” Abete said.

He then confirmed that they contacted nobody to replace Prandelli.

“If he opts to leave then we will make a different choice, but, as it stands, we have not spoken to any other people,” he said.
