It has been an incredible season for Italy as four major European Leagues will be won by the Italian managers this season.
In Europe, three Italian managers have already won the League title with their club this year, and the fourth one will be decided by the results of Serie A. However, it is confirmed that it will be an Italian coach who will lift the Seria A title this season as Juventus, A.S. Roma and Napoli are managed by Italian managers.
Carlo Ancelotti has won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, Antonio Conte has won the Premier League with Chelsea, Massimo Carrera has won the Russian Premier League with Spartak Moscow, and in Serie A it will be either Massimiliano Allegri with Juventus or Luciano Spalletti with A.S. Roma. Napoli are still in with a mathematical chance but it’s unlikely Maurizio Sarri’s side will lift the Scudetto.
Allegri’s team are in the finals of the UEFA Champions League as well, and if they defeat Real Madrid, then the manager will win the treble with his club this season.
Jose Mourinho once said that “everyone in Italy thinks they are a coach,” however, this season Italian coaches have proved why Italy is famous for world class managers in the footballing world.
You must be thinking how European Leagues are being dominated by the Italian managers. Well, we can just say that Italian Managers have been best tactically and their quick judgment during games have made them the best in some of the top European Leagues.
“What stands Italian coaches out above the rest is our minute attention to detail, they are beyond compare when it comes to tactical knowledge and the ability to form a group dynamic,” the legendary Giovanni Trapattoni told Corriere dello Sport.
Coverciano's impact
Florence’s Coverciano technical centre is one of the most famous sports centres in the world. At the centre, children are taught to think critically and analytically from a young age. That is the reason why Italian managers have always been good strategically.
The likes of Ancelotti, Conte, Carrera, Allegri and Spalletti are all Coverciano graduates. Claudio Ranieri, who took Leicester City to glory in the Premier League last year, is also a graduate of the same academy.
“Italian clubs cannot afford the same transfer fees as the other leagues, but you cannot buy ideas. In that sense, our school of coaching is at the vanguard," Trapattoni added.
It’s not the first time that Italian managers are ruling the European football, it has been there for a long time now as they have a record of winning 46 UEFA Club competitions in total. This proves that Italy has been consistent in producing not only world class defenders but world class managers too.
To be successful in today’s football world, most of the managers splash money in the transfer market to bring high-profile players to their club. But the truth is one must keep adapting over time.
It is easy nowadays to study the game plan of your opponent and with so much technology available, anybody can understand the tactics of the rival team easily.
