Italy have always been football giants in international tournaments having won both the 2nd and 3rd FIFA World Cup editions ever, but many will argue that they have fallen off recently in respect to the FIFA World Cup. Although they won the 2020 EUROS tournament, the last 2 FIFA World Cup campaigns have ended in heartbreak for Italy.
They have failed to qualify for both the 2018 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals. This has been very unexpected for a team who has won the tournament 4 times in the past and were the first team to win consecutive FIFA World Cup titles. Their latest FIFA World Cup win came in 2006 when they managed to beat France 5-3 in the penalty shootout.

Total Wins In The World Cup
Italy has won the FIFA World Cup on 4 different occasions. Their first win came in the 2nd ever edition of the FIFA World Cup in 1934. They also lifted the trophy in 1938, becoming the first team to win the FIFA World Cup consecutively. After their triumph in 1938, their next world cup took some time.
They finally managed to win the FIFA World Cup again in 1982. Their final and latest world cup trophy came in 2006 under manager Marcello Lippi. This makes Italy tie with Germany for 2nd position with 4 FIFA World Cup titles, just one less than Brazil who have won it five times.
