Kiev (Ukraine), June 21 (IANS)-
Italian centre-back Giorgio Chiellini will miss the former World Cup winners’ quarter-final clash of Euro 2012 against England here Sunday due to injury.
Chiellini, who limped off with a hamstring problem in Monday’s 2-0 Group C victory over Ireland, underwent tests on Wednesday morning, and learnt the bad news from the Italian team doctor, reported Xinhua.
Enrico Castellacci announced that the 27-year-old Juventus defender will be unavailable for Sunday’s quarter-final game.
“We’ll do everything to get him back as soon as possible,” said Castellacci. “We’re not setting limits. If we make progress, we’ll try to get him back for the first meaningful match.”
Chiellini will likely be replaced by another Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci.
