It’s Raining Goals

What a spectacle Game Week 36 had to offer, six games played, 22 goals scored. Where should you have been? The Swans expected a no-brainer against relegated Wolves, only for the visitors to spring a surprising comeback to finish the game level on 4-4, leaving the Swans sitting pretty on 12th position on 44 points.

Everton continued their form that set the Premier League race wide open last week against defending Champions Manchester United by scoring another 4 goal rout against Fulham, who unlike United, were not able to find the net. Nikica Jelavic once again proved his worth, bagging a brace with Fellaini and Cahill also getting on the scoresheet

Arsenal however failed to cement their position on 3rd spot drawing away to Stoke, thanks to a Peter Crouch goal, and an equalizer from League Top Scorer Robin Van Persie. Arsenal remain 3rd on 66 points, 4 ahead of Newcastle who have played a game less, and 7 points ahead of London rivals Tottenham who have played 2 games less than the Gunners. Interesting fight for the Champions League slot this will be, especially with the imminent danger of Chelsea winning the Champions League looming.

Bolton remain stuck in the relegation battle after drawing 2-2 away to Sunderland, who are showing signs of a threatening revival next season thanks to having Martin O’Neil at the helm

How safe is Aston Villa from the drop? The next two games could be very important, but with Wolves already down the league, Blackburn, Bolton and QPR might as well fight to the death to hang on. Villa drew 0-0 away to West Brom

However, the best sight of the week has to be at the DW Stadium, where Wigan once again proved that they had been sleeping on the job! A brace from Victor Moses in less than 2 minutes was enough to shake off a less than determined Newcastle, and all that remained was for Shaun Maloney and Franco Di Santo to kill off the game. No revival was possible for Alan Pardew’s side as they slumped to a heavy defeat, casting a doubt on whether they can actually manage to compete for the coveted Champions League spot.

Liverpool travel to Norwich, and a loss for the visitors would mean that Norwich will be tied on 46 points alongside Liverpool, Fulham and West Brom

22 goals in 6 games; The perfect curtain raiser for the Manchester Derby?
