Barcelona’s style of play can make it tough for them to buy central defenders as it is not easy to adapt to their style of play, believes Gerard Pique.
Barca has been in the hunt for a number center-backs this summer, most markedly PSG star Thiago Silva. But the Spaniard believes that the club’s quest of a defender has been made tough by the way they play their game.
“It’s hard to find the right profile [of player] because our style of play is unique,” the 26-year-old told a press conference in Thailand. “Experience says it’s not easy to find a centre-back for Barca.”
Pique further said that in spite of continued interest from Manchester United, Cesc Fabregas wants to stay at Camp Nou.
“I’ve always looked very calmly at it. It’s normal to receive offers when you’re that good, but he has always told me he wants to stay and succeed at Barca,” he said.
The Barcelona defender even praised Lionel Messi and expressed his faith in him that he will continue to excel next season:
“Every year Messi seems to reach his limit, but he always ends up exceeding that. He is the best.”
