Jose Mourinho has revealed that Chelsea did the right thing by letting Frank Lampard leave and the move was to build the team for the next ten years. Lampard is on loan at Manchester City till December from their sister club New York City.
Lampard transfer not a blunder
The England international’s latest goal for Manchester City prevented Chelsea from taking a five point lead over their close rivals and Manuel Pellegrini finally admitted that he wishes the midfielder continues to be with them till the current season ends. The 36-year-old had denied his former club a victory at Eastlands and so Chelsea now face the prospect of their club’s leading scorer helping City win the title. However, Mourinho is confident of his club’s decision to transfer Lampard and claimed the move was not a blunder.
The Portuguese manager said:
"It’s his life, nothing to do with us. He left Chelsea as a free agent and chooses his life, we can’t complain about it. That’s football. My view is that when you want to look forward, look for the future and have people like Fabregas, Matic and Jeremie Boga, which are the next 10 years of the club, not the next year, that we made the right decision.
"You can argue ‘you have John Terry and Didier Drogba’. Different. Didier Drogba is a striker that is coming to help and support. John Terry is the best central defender in English football and it doesn’t matter how old he is. The nucleus of the team that has to be developed, if you have a big player like Frank it would stop the development of the other guys." He added.
When he scores for them, we are not happy: Ivanovic
Former teammate Branislav Ivanovic feels that the current Premier League champions are sure to not let go the services of Lampard for the rest of the title race and aslo feels it was hard to see Lampard’s name of their rivals’ scoresheet.
The defender said: "His performances in Manchester City prove everyone is happy with him and he will stay for sure until the end of the season. Lamps is this kind of player who always scores and always gives everything. He scored in a lot of important games for this club and the history of this club. Now he’s just carrying on and we are not so happy when we see that, but this is the reality."
