News broke last week that Liverpool were set to add young Australian midfielder Jake Brimmer to their already strong academy. The 16 year-old playmaker, had two trials with the 2005 Champions League winners.
His first trial was when he was spotted by Rodgers on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East. Now, this story came out when Rodgers and his team where ‘Down Under’, but Rodgers or his coaching staff wouldn’t reveal the identity of the then 15 year old gem, who turned out to be Brimmer.
His second and last trial was in the first week of November and after again impressing like he did in Australia, Liverpool reportedly offered the Australian, who lives in Victoria, a contract with the club.

The contract was reportedly agreed between all three parties, Brimmer, Liverpool and Brimmer’s current club Nunawading City FC. After agreeing a deal, it is down to signing the paperwork and sorting out secretarial issues such as work permits and his Visa before the 16 year old can officially become a Liverpool player, joining current Australians Brad Jones and Brad Smith at the club, and join the list of Australians that have represented Liverpool such as attacking midfielder Harry Kewell.
Brimmer was a player that came through the ranks of Nunawading under the leadership of his father Steve, who is the Manager. The midfielder has represented Australia at Under 15 level as well as at Under 17 level and has 3 caps for Australia Under 17s scoring just the once.
Brimmer recently took part in a trial to see if he can be selected for U16 AFC Championships along with fellow Victorians James Delianov and Luke Ward, who have been with Brimmer in many national events for Australia. Naturally, Brimmer showed his true ability and the Australia under 17 captain was selected for the AFC Championships.
After researching Jake Brimmer, I for one would like to see the young Aussie in action at the Kirkby Academy in the future, and follow his journey and see if he can carry out his dream to become a professional footballer.
