Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that the Merseysiders will go on to win the Premier League after they moved to the top of the table with victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, report Sky Sports.
Title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City dropped crucial points against Crystal Palace and Arsenal respectively to give Brendan Rodgers’ side the chance to move two points clear, which they gladly seized.
However, although Manuel Pellegrini’s team remain the favourites as they boast two games in hand over the Reds, Carragher is adamant the 24 year wait for a league title at his former club is about to end.
“I think Liverpool will win it now. The feeling before the weekend was ‘we’ve got a chance’, but those results and the intensity Liverpool played with on and off the pitch has changed that.
“I’m talking about the crowd, I’m talking about the Kop. You heard the roar at the end of the game and you know something’s happening.
“After this game there is a major belief that Liverpool will go on and win the league. There’s a banner in the crowd now: ‘make us dream’ and I think they’re making the supporters believe now,” he insisted.
The Kop is undoubtedly dreaming of a maiden Premier League crown and next Sunday’s crunch clash against Manchester City at Anfield could now prove to be a title decider.
But even though Carragher thinks that Liverpool will have several tests to negotiate during the run-in, he can only see one winner.
“With the way they [Liverpool] are playing – and the pace and energy they’ve got – it will be very difficult for Man City to go there and take three points.
“I can only see Liverpool winning that game.
“There is going to come a moment when they are under the cosh; they might go one down or go down to 10 men.
“Something will happen that Liverpool have to come through – and then you can say they deserve to win the title for that reason.
“There will be a moment between now and the end, in the six games where they prove themselves as champions – and I believe they will,” Carragher declared.
Liverpool have scored 18 goals in the last five Premier League fixtures.
