Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Liverpool’s title credentials will be truly tested to the limit on Saturday when they visit Southampton in the evening kickoff.
The Reds have re-announced themselves in the title race in recent weeks and currently sit just four points off league leaders Chelsea with 11 games to play.
Redknapp is intrigued as to how long they can maintain this and feels an away game against a tricky opponent in Southampton could put down a real marker in their pursuit of glory.
The former Reds midfielder told SkySports, “Liverpool’s trip to Southampton will give us a real indication of what Brendan Rodgers’ side can achieve in the final part of the season.
“Of the title contenders, only Chelsea have gone to St Mary’s and won, so if Liverpool get three points there on Saturday, we’ll have to say they’re not just capable of finishing in the top four, but they might surprise everyone and win the Premier League as well.
“Going forward they have been a joy to watch this term. The team is full of pace and Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling – who has been performing fantastically – deserve plenty of plaudits.
“Sterling’s form has been overshadowed by the goals of Sturridge and Suarez, but he’s been a revelation.
“Philippe Coutinho has also been impressive, while I’ve enjoyed the form of Jordan Henderson because he’s a young man who has taken a lot of stick, but has worked hard and had to prove every day in training that he’s capable of playing in this Liverpool team.
“Like Aaron Ramsey at Arsenal, Henderson has knuckled down and come to the fore this season.”
