Javier Hernandez: Frustrated at Manchester United?

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez hinted at his frustration at playing a substitute role for the club this morning, retweeting a Sky Sports news article that suggested he should leave the club. The Mexican has been on the periphery of the team under David Moyes, making only one league start this season, having suffered a similar fate under previous manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Casting doubt on his future, Hernandez retweeted an article in which Mexican international teammate Carlos Vela spoke about the frustration of sitting on the bench. Vela suffered a similar fate to Hernandez during his time at Arsenal, and eventually left the Gunners in favour of first team football at Real Sociedad. Vela suggested that his compatriot may do the same, admitting that he doesn’t understand his omission from the United side.

“He is one of the best finishers in England and deserves chances under the new coach,” said Vela.

“If he plays regularly he will score, so I don’t totally understand why a player of his quality has not played more games.”

“If he doesn’t play regularly he will need to think about leaving.”

Hernandez has played four Premier League games this season, but has only started one of them. Even in that game, the 2-1 defeat to West Brom, the Mexican only managed 57 minutes on the pitch.

Last season Hernandez scored 10 goals, despite only starting nine league games. Thirteen of his 22 appearances came from the bench, and he only completed 90 minutes on four occasions.

Hernandez had the best goals to minutes ratio of any Manchester United striker last season. He scored a goal every 95.4 minutes that he was on the pitch, beating Robin Van Persie, who scored every 120.08 minutes, Wayne Rooney, who scored once every 167.8 minutes, and Danny Welbeck who scored once in 1296 minutes
