Argentine Midfielder Javier Mascherano has signed a new deal with Barcelona ending any speculation of him leaving the club.
Mascherano, who turned 30 today was rumored to be moving back to the Premier League while Italian club Napoli were also said to be interested in his services.
But the former Liverpool player who plays as a Central Defender for Barcelona chose to be with the club till 2018 after Barcelona manager Luis Enrique made him sign a buy-out clause worth £81 million.
Mascherano is currently away on international duty where he will be representing Argentina in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2014.
He has played an important role in Barcelona’s success after having joined the Catalans from Liverpool in 2011. He has won no fewer than nine titles and has represented Barcelona in 184 matches.
