If winning against Germany would’ve been redemption for losing to Chile, England failed miserably at it.
Joachim Low’s men defeated three lions in their own back yard with a brilliant header from Arsenal defender, Per Mertesacker.
Just a few days ago, Chelsea man Andre Schurrle stated that Germany’s squad is too strong and perhaps even Wayne Rooney would not make it if he was German.
“Rooney is a great player, but we have good quality, too, in every position, and maybe twice, so I don’t know if he would play,” he said.
A strong dig about one of England’s best players, but Joachim Low believes that there is one Arsenal youngster who might make the World Cup squad next summer.
18 year old Serge Gnabry has broken into Arsenal’s first team and has impressed big time.
Low said: “The boy is really good. He has exceptional qualities.
“I’m still open [to him making the World Cup squad]. We have an eye on him.”
Gnabry captured Low’s imagination when he and his assistant Hansi Flick travelled to watch Ozil play for the Gunners against Swansea at the end of September.
In two U21 league appearances, he scored 2 goals and provided 2 assists.
In four Premier League appearances (2 starts), Gnabry has scored a goal and also set up one. Adding to that, in five U19 Internationals for Germany this year, he has netted 3 times and provided 3 assists as well.
