Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has warned Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho that he is at risk of losing the Blues’ dressing room and must take responsibility if the club fail to win a trophy this season, report the Evening Standard.
The west Londoners are currently two points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool with six games remaining and have a mountain to climb in the Champions League quarter-final as they trail Paris Saint-Germain 3-1.
Mourinho has branded the Ligue 1 giants as favourites to progress ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday and Cruyff is confused by the Portuguese’s attitude.
“PSG have a strong team with some great players. Chelsea have some great players as well, but Mourinho seems to disagree.
“It’s always the same with him. When things are going well, it’s the result of his good work, but the players are to blame when things are going badly.
“He already lost the dressing room at Real Madrid because of that and I can see the same happening at Chelsea.
“The problem with Mourinho is that he only cares about results. The result is more important than his players. He always thinks short-term and that’s simply not my thing,” Cruyff insisted.
The former Barcelona coach has been critical of Mourinho’s methods throughout his career as his brash and arrogant comments do not sit well with the Dutchman’s own opinions.
There is undoubtedly some truth in Cruyff’s comments as Mourinho picks and chooses when to lay the blame at the door of his players and when to accept he has made an incorrect decision.
Midfielder Andre Schurrle was deployed in a false number nine role in the first leg and although Mourinho bemoaned his current crop of forwards, he has escaped criticism for his failure to bring in adequate additions in the transfer window.
Chelsea have kept three clean sheets in their four Champions League fixtures at Stamford Bridge this season.
