Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has given his word that John Terry will stay at Stamford Bridge next season in a pre-match interview before the West Ham game. Terry’s future at the London Club has been a topic of huge speculation, but after the Capital One Cup victory at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho revealed that the Blues captain will stay at the club for the next season, at least.
Due to club policy, Chelsea is only allowed to offer a 12-month contract to players above the age of 30. Terry penned his last contract two days after the end of last season, but the upcoming one might be well within the season according to the Portuguese.
The Chelsea manager confirmed, “It will be before the end of the season, for sure.”
Terry won his 13th winners medal in the 2-0 League Cup victory against Tottenham Hotspurs at the Wembley. It was Mourinho’s first piece of silverware in his second spell at Chelsea.
Petr Cech is another player who seems uncertain of his future at Stamford Bridge, has no opposition from Mourinho if he were to leave the team next year.
“If he tells me he wants to leave, I will tell him my opinion and my opinion is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world,” Mourinho said.
