Jose Mourinho confirmed that John Terry is set to be rewarded for outstanding displays with new deal. He was kept waiting before being offered contract extension last season but this year will not be the same as John Terry is all set to sign a new contract extension sooner rather than later.

The 34-year-old, who on Saturday scored for the second straight game in the 2-0 Boxing Day victory over West Ham, is out of contract in June, but remains a mainstay of Mourinho's Barclays Premier League leaders."It's a formality," Mourinho said. "There are no doubts that he is going to get another contract. I know that, he knows that.”"We in the club, in the board, we know that and I think also you have to feel that. Without us confirming anything, you have to feel that.”"He's a very important player in the team so the next contract sooner or later will come."Chelsea have had a policy of offering players over the age of 30 one-year deals, irrespective of their status. Mourinho also praised Terry’s forward instincts as the veteran led from the front scoring the first goal of the game against an organized West Ham.

"He always had that [goal-scoring ability]," Mourinho, who made Terry captain during his first spell, said. "He's full of confidence. I see my John of 2004, 05, 06. I see him. I don't see any difference."I only see a difference when I see his twin [daughters] when they go to the training ground because they were born in that period and now they are running and kicking balls."In him there is no difference. He's playing so good.”“He’s a happy guy and he’s playing well, he likes his team-mates, likes the manager, he works well. It’s a very happy group and I think John feels very, very well.”Mourinho was frustrated by his side's failure to beat West Ham last season calling their football as 19th century football, but the Blues were much more clinical this time."We are a much better team when we have the ball," Mourinho added. "Last year we were very strong defensively, very well organised, but a bit lacking in creativity when we had the ball."The challenge this season was to bring that creativity, that dynamism, without losing the good defensive qualities of the team."At the beginning of the season there was a little bit of conflict between these two ideas. It was difficult to have a clean sheet. "In this moment we have a good balance."Mourinho was very impressed by his hardworking Chelsea side. Despite training twice on Saturday, the players opted to train immediately after the Hammers victory to prepare for Sunday's trip to Southampton. Some will have a recovery session, others a more strenuous workout.Mourinho said: "I had two training sessions for tomorrow, but they were crying so much in the dressing room I decided to make a change. They are training now."

The league leaders now face a stiff test against Southampton who they face this Sunday in their run of hectic schedule. Chelsea have now won 9 straight home games this season without dropping any points.
