Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho pulled no punches in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Red Devil’s showdown with Leicester City. Describing the media as ‘Einsteins’ in need of money, Mourinho absolutely laid into the press for their criticism of United, while also defending Wayne Rooney.
With Manchester United under fire after three high-profile losses on the trot, Mourinho was in a typically spiky mood while facing the microphones. When asked about the criticism, Jose came out firing, saying “I am such a lucky guy. I can't be upset with anything. The only thing that upsets me a little bit is the kind of criticism for my players.”

“I would love to protect my players, but from you I can't. The Einsteins (media) need money to live. They can't coach, they can't be on the bench, they can't win matches. They can speak, they can write. They can criticise the work of other people. But I am a good man. I am a man of goodwill. I do lots of charity work. I am helping so many people. Why not also help feed the Einsteins.”
Mourinho defends Rooney and talks about title chances
Only Jose Mourinho and Sir Alex Ferguson have retained the Premier League title in its history. When asked about Leicester’s chances, Mourinho gave a sarcastic answer, saying “It is very difficult to retain the title. History says that. Not many in the Premier League have done it. One team was Manchester United and another was managed by the worst manager in history of football (referring to himself winning it with Chelsea).”

Wayne Rooney has also come in for some major criticism in many quarters, but Mourinho correctly pointed out that his form is as good as the entire teams’, saying “Wayne Rooney’s form is like Man United form. We are a team. We are not Wayne Rooney and we all started well, we all won four matches and we all lost three matches in the week, so that’s not Wayne Rooney and to be honest he didn’t play against Feyenoord, so he was not directly involved in that match.”
