Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hit out at Arsene Wenger and Jurgen Klopp for their words criticising Paul Pogba’s rumoured transfer fee. The Arsenal and Liverpool manager were uncomfortable with the £100 million fee that Premier League rivals United might pay for Pogba, but Mourinho branded them ‘unethical’.
The Portuguese tactician was facing the microphones ahead of the Red Devil’s FA Community Shield encounter against Leicester City, and pulled no punches in describing his displeasure with his managerial rivals. Wenger had earlier described Pogba’s transfer fee as ‘completely crazy’, while Klopp had also noted that he would not want to work in a footballing environment that accepts a £100 million fee as ‘normal’.

Mourinho claimed the press was unfair in their treatment of him, saying “I only speak about us. I heard two of my colleagues from other clubs already speaking about us. I do not like that. It is not ethical. There are things that when I do are not ethical and when others do it everything is normal and nobody says that. I do not speak about the others. They can do what they want.”
Mourinho confirms United will sign another player, while offering Schweinsteiger no support
While Mourinho claimed he was innocent of never speaking about other clubs, he came dangerously close to confirming Paul Pogba’s signing for Manchester United. When asked if a new signing was in the offing, Mourinho replied, “Yes. We have 22 [outfield players] and we are going to have 23.”
“All that matters is what happens in my house and not in my neighbours’ house. Paul Pogba is a Juventus player until he isn’t, officially, so we stay like this. The market closes on 31 August but I think my club is trying to do everything to close our market before the 14th. Normally, next week, we will have our squad closed.”

The furore surrounding Bastian Schweinsteiger was also addressed by Mourinho, with the Portuguese manager offering little support. Mourinho has increased his squad to 23 players given United’s Europa League commitments, but had no place for Schweinsteiger, saying “I normally like to work with 20 players plus the three goalkeepers, which is what I have done for 15 years, because we have so many players but at the same time we have so many competitions and especially the Europa League.”
“I made the decision to be with 23 plus three goalkeepers, which is still a lot. I had to make my decisions. It is simple.”
