Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Diego Costa is a player he wants to add to his Chelsea squad ahead of next season, finally breaking his silence on the expected arrival of the Atletico Madrid powerhouse. Mourinho also revealed he’s “extremely confident” that the player will be playing at Stamford Bridge next season.
Costa is believed to have agreed personal terms with Chelsea having already passed a medical at Stamford Bridge and it seems something of a formality that the Spanish international will indeed sign for Chelsea in time for the 2014/15 campaign.
The Atletico Madrid man led the line and won a penalty in Spain’s opening day humiliation by Netherlands on Friday, and while a fee is yet to be agreed with his parent club, Mourinho has finally spoken about his desire to land the striker to improve his current forward options.
Mourinho told reporters, “Costa is a player I want in my team.
“I’ve asked the club to bring him in and I am extremely confident that we are going to get him and he’ll end up signing for Chelsea.”
Costa will become Chelsea’s second signing of the summer to join adopted compatriot Cesc Fabregas through the doors at Stamford Bridge, as Mourinho looks to address a squad that failed to deliver him a single trophy last season.
Strikers have been identified as a priority for the Blues having already released Samuel Eto’o, with Mourinho expected to recruit two forwards in the summer transfer window, leaving the futures of both Fernando Torres and Demba Ba uncertain.
Diego Costa scored 27 goals last season, only Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez scored more.
