Jose Mourinho denies Chelsea interest in £43.5m rated Antoine Griezmann

Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans

Jose Mourinho has denied any interest in signing Antoine Griezmann and has hopefully put an end to all rumours about the 24-year-old signing for Chelsea this summer. It's a story that appeared a fair few weeks ago and seemed to have gathered momentum recently.

It was being reported that Chelsea were more than happy to meet the £43.5m release clause in his contract to bring him to West London having scored 25 goals in 44 appearances for Atletico this season. There had even been suggestions of late that the player himself was interested in a move to Chelsea.

However, in an interview with Spanish Newspaper Marca, Jose Mourinho has put an end to the speculation. He said: “Griezmann is a great striker but is not within our objectives to strengthen the squad for next season. We are not interested.”

I agree with Mourinho, he is a great attacking player but for Chelsea to spend that ridiculous amount of money on him would have been a mistake as I personally believe we have a better cheaper option available (according to reports) in Pedro of Barcelona or if we are keen to spend big - Gareth Bale!
