Jose Mourinho won his third Premier League title with Chelsea today after beating Crystal Palace 1-0. Mourinho was ecstatic after the victory and celebrating with his team. In his second season in his second stint with the London club, he pipped defending champions Manchester City to the title with 3 matches to go.
He had the following to say after the match, “We were convinced for a long time, but my experience and maturity was always present and in control of the emotions and the situation.
“We are champions now, but during the season we had some crucial moments we coped with in a fantastic way.
“On 1st January, when we were level on points with City after a heavy defeat at Spurs, instead of being a turning point it was our last defeat. From that moment we haven’t had a single defeat. The team were always there, everybody knows we deserve it.”
Mourinho praised his team saying they’ve been deserving winners for the effort they’ve put in since day one.
He said, “Chelsea are different, opponents are different. My team is one where so many of them have won the league for the first time, that’s something they have to learn to do.
“I’m so happy for them. Because of everything we’ve done since day one I feel we got what we deserved.”
John Terry: I live for this
Terry, who has been with Chelsea all his life and through all four of their Premier League trophies, spoke about his joy being at the club, and what it meant to win the league at his age.
“Unbelievable,” said the former English captain. “We’ve worked so hard to get there. It was a little bit nervy, but we’ve done it.
“One person said I couldn’t play two times in a week. Who knows who he is? I’ve proved him wrong. I live for this. I was a mascot here, I've painted the stadium and I've done everything.”
Hazard, who is one of Chelsea’s key players this season, helped them score the only goal in the match against Crystal Palace after initially missing his penalty.
“It’s amazing, we deserve to be champions. We are 13 points in front. We won the cup, we won the title," said the Belgian.
Chelsea’s final three matches include a game against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge before they travel to West Brom and host Sunderland on the last day of the league.
