German forward Andre Schurrle has said that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho played a key role in his development not only as a footballer, but also as a human being. Speaking at his unveiling as a VFL Wolfsburg player, the 24-year-old said that the Portuguese manager makes public comments about a player sometimes, only because he wants him to learn from the mistake that he has committed.
"Working under Mourinho is sometimes difficult because he is special. And you need to pin it down for yourself when he ups the pressure on you, sometimes also in public. But Mourinho does it because he wants success,” he said.
Schurrle added that the 52-year-old emphasises on winning games and the manner in which he addresses that point is admirable.
"Under him you turn into a man because he raises awareness of only caring about winning in football. The focus is on that and nothing else. It's impressive how he does it,” the 2014 World Cup winner said.
He added that footballers are professionals and don't need any kind of caring from managers and there’s a massive amount of competition everywhere.
"We are professionals and not kids who need to be taken care of. It's a tough business with a lot of competition,” the forward said.
