Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has lost his petition against a one-match stadium ban and £50,000 fine from Football Association, The Telegraph reports.
Mourinho was charged by the FA for comments he made after his team lost 1-3 against Southampton at Stamford Bridge, earlier in October. He accused referees of being afraid when awarding decisions in favour of Chelsea.
Subsequently, the FA charged him with misconduct and handed him a £50,000 fine and a one-match ban as well. The stadium ban will be enforced if Mourinho is found culpable for further misconduct.
Mourinho didn’t learn from his previous mistakes and was sent off to stands when the Blues were playing away to West Ham United later the same month. The defending champions succumbed to another defeat at Boleyn ground, and their manager was handed a £40,000 fine, and a one-match stadium ban.
“Arsene Wenger was right, you are f****** soft”, Mourinho reportedly told referee Jon Moss in his room at half-time.
The Portuguese is expected to stay away from the Britannia Stadium and it’s surrounding areas on Saturday if he acknowledges the ban at all. The code of conduct dictates that the manager’s last form of communication with the team should be at the team hotel. Allegedly, the Blue’s boss, in his first stint with the club, ignored a UEFA stadium ban by smuggling into the dressing room in Munich stadium back in 2005.
However, the FA has decided not to intermingle the two charges and treat them as two different cases of misconduct.
Referees are afraid to give decisions in favour of Chelsea: Mourinho
The comments which landed Mourinho in trouble were spoken in the post-match interview after the Chelsea-Southampton match.
He said, “I think it is time to be honest and say clearly that referees are afraid to give decisions to Chelsea, at 1-1 there is a huge penalty and once more we do not get it. It was at a crucial moment in the game. I repeat, if the FA wants to punish me they can punish me, it is not a problem.”
Later the FA issued a statement on its official website stating that the Chelsea manager has been charged with misconduct.
Chelsea players will come out onto the pitch on Saturday in a bid to turn things around for themselves.
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic was heard talking about the magnitude of the task ahead of his team’s visit to Stoke at the weekend.
“We are not good in the Premier League, we are 15th in the table, so we have to also win on Saturday. It is going to be tough because it is always difficult at Stoke but last season we won 2-0 and we can do the same now. But we will have to play well because they are strong at home,” he said.
“Of course it is more easy when the coach is on the bench and especially at half-time when he can say something. But we also have other great coaches, and they will be prepared for everything. It’s going to be strange of course. I think that I’m here almost two years and we have not played without a coach yet, but we will be ready.”
