According to Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes, the former Chelsea manager has not been offered the hot seat at Manchester United. Mourinho was sacked after the Blues lost their ninth game in the Premier League this season and has been linked with a move to their rivals in the media as Guus Hiddink took over at Stamford Bridge.

The Old Trafford club are in turmoil over recent results under current boss Louis van Gaal. The players have failed to live up to his expectations and philosophy and the club have been winless in their last six games. That run of games included losses to Bournemouth and Norwich City while a loss to Wolfsburg in the sixth and final Champions League group stage match saw them get knocked out and drop down to the Europa League.

No proposal from Manchester United: Mendes

There were reports that Mourinho was keen on taking over at Manchester United after he got the sack. The increasing pressure on Van Gaal saw a number of media outlets reporting his pending departure with the 52-year-old Portuguese manager set to take over. Van Gaal himself had admitted that he was in danger of losing his job if there was no upturn in the Red Devils’ form.

However, Mourinho’s agent was quick to dispel any thoughts over Mourinho taking over from Van Gaal anytime soon. Mendes was speaking to Globoesporte when he said Mourinho had not been approached yet.

Speaking about the reported links to the Old Trafford hot seat, Mendes said: “There is nothing. We don't know what will happen in the future, but now there is no agreement.

Mendes also said that United had not proposed anything of the sort to Mourinho either. “There isn't an official proposal either, that's not true.”

Manchester United board held a meeting on Tuesday

United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had called a meeting with the club hierarchy in London on Tuesday, but Van Gaal’s job was not a topic that was discussed. The Dutchman had been signed on a three-year contract that runs out in the summer of 2017.

It is understood that they had met to discuss matters concerning the commercial side of the club and not Van Gaal’s immediate future.

Manchester United’s next game is on Boxing Day – an away trip to the Britannia Stadium to take on Stoke City. The 64-year-old United boss is scheduled to hold a pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
