Manchester United have been linked with James Rodriguez for a number of seasons now and may be favourites to land his signature after manager Jose Mourinho has supposedly promised him a major role at the football club.
The Red Devils were particularly interested in signing the Colombian playmaker back in 2014, before his exploits at the World Cup, but nothing materialised.
James reportedly turned down a move to Inter this transfer window after deciding to stay at Madrid for another season and fight for his place in the side. Meanwhile, Don Balon has stated that Jose Mourinho has offered him a major role in Manchester United should he decide to make a switch.
Although United’s major target remains to be Antoine Griezmann, James would still make a pretty decent addition to their already star-studded lineup. Griezmann, star of the French national team this season, has boosted United’s hopes of signing him after deciding to split with his agent recently.

Reports suggest that with Chelsea interested in the player as well, United might very well turn their attention to James. Madrid, though, are under no pressure to sell the Colombian and are expected to place at least a £70m price tag on his head.
James has made just over 50 league appearances for Los Blancos since his arrival from Monaco. He also has a wealth of international experience to his name having made 50 appearances for Colombia, scoring 17 goals in the process.
The 25-year-old does not seem to be a part of Zidane’s plans this season, though, and might very well look for a move away, either in January or next summer.

Manchester United, ever since the arrival of Mourinho, have been in a spending frenzy. After the signing of Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer, the club was also linked with Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci as well as their 18-year-old midfielder Grigoris Kastanos.
The Red Devils made a great start to this year’s Premier League campaign with 3 wins on the trot but back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Feyenoord have left the club somewhat short on confidence.
They travel to Watford on Sunday and would be looking to regain some of their early season form. United fans will also be hoping that world record signing Paul Pogba can regain some of the form he showed at Juventus after a dismal start to his United career.
