What's the story?
Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon recently stated that former boss Jose Mourinho will return as a manager in the upcoming season, piquing fans' interest across the globe.
In case you didn't know...
Real Madrid were knocked out from the Copa Del Rey semi-finals by their arch-rivals Barcelona. The Los Blancos were defeated 3-0 (4-1 on aggregate) as Uruguayan sharpshooter Luis Suarez grabbed two goals while Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane put the ball into their own net.
Los Blancos gave a tough fight to their bitter rivals but Barcelona were eventually more clinical team in front of goal. Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema missed a couple of chances and Real Madrid were denied numerous times by Barcelona goalie, Marc Andre Ter Stegen, with multiple majestic saves.
This victory sent the Blaugrana to their sixth successive Copa Del Rey Final. On the other hand, Los Blancos have a mountain to climb to save this current 2018/19 from being a huge failure.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, came under loads of criticism this season as Los Blancos sold their all-time greatest goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo and could not prevent coach Zinedine Zidane from leaving.
Madrid are already 9 points behind 1st placed Barcelona in the La Liga and face Ajax in the second leg of UEFA Champions League knockout rounds without their captain Sergio Ramos due to suspension.
The heart of the matter
It goes without saying that Real Madrid are enduring a poor season considering their sky-high standards and former President Ramon Calderon's comment will only add more controversy to the already growing speculation of Jose Mourinho returning to the club.
As quoted by Spanish media outlet AS, Calderon stated on social media after El Clasico loss: "I have a feeling, and maybe a little more, that Mourinho will be on the Real Madrid bench next season".
The timing of the quote will only add to the speculation around Real Madrid's managerial position, and it will certainly be a story worth following in the next couple of months.
What's next?
Los Blancos will get a chance to avenge their defeat as they host Barcelona again this weekend but in the La Liga.
