Jose Mourinho might just replace Laurent Blanc as PSG manager

Not long after the sacking of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has opined that the recently unemployed Portuguese tactician might want to ply his trade in France with Paris Saint-Germain, thus giving him the opportunity to knock Chelsea out of the competition.

Mourinho was sacked on Thursday after he enjoyed his Christmas lunch and annual party with the players and the staff at the Chelsea’s Cobham headquarters.

Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher however thinks that Mourinho might just end up at the Parc de Princes as Laurent Blanc’s successor. Discussing Mourinho’s future, Carragher told the Daily Mail:

“Paris Saint-Germain. He has won titles in every country in which he has managed and PSG would be another box to tick.”

“Laurent Blanc is a good coach but he is not in the same bracket as Mourinho and if PSG want to make a mark in the Champions League, Mourinho would be a clear fit.”

“In fact, Mourinho might actually want Chelsea to knock PSG out of the last 16 to improve his prospects of getting a role in Paris.”

The growing rift between Mourinho and his players was making life difficult for him at Stamford Bridge and club officials had to take the decision to sack him in order to not jeopardise their campaign further. Reports suggest that Chelsea are looking forward to appointing Guus Hiddink as their interim boss till the end of the season.

Mourinho’s storied career

In his 12 years stint as a manager Mourinho has bagged 21 trophies. He is considered by many stalwarts of football as one of the most successful managers of the game. He started out his playing career in the second division of Portuguese football and has studied sports science from the Technical University of Lisbon.

In the early 1990’s Mourinho started working as Sir Bobby Robson’s interpreter in Sporting Clube de Portugal and FC Porto and then eventually in Barcelona, where he also worked with Louis van Gaal. Mourinho had major success as a manager for FC Porto (he won them the Champions League in 2004).

In 2005 he joined Chelsea and led them to the League title with a record 95 points. It was the club’s first league title in 50 years. Chelsea retained the Premier League title the next season but in 2007 Mourinho left Chelsea, the rumoured reason being a rift between him and the club owner Roman Abramovich.

The wheels have turned and this time the rift is supposedly between Mourinho and the Chelsea squad, but the end result is the same. Jose Mourinho is unemployed, but not for long.
